Two incidents showed the Greats understanding of martial arts that rivals Dugu 9 Jian in LOCH that stick out to me:
The first time when the old freak Liang attacked Guo Jing and Huang Rong, and Hong Qigong was able to preemptively call his moves out before even being executed.
The second time when Lingzhi Shangren talked back to Huang Yaoshi and Zhou Botong, and both immediately saw that his weak point was his neck and defeated him in one move.
The gist of Dugu 9 Jian is realizing the weakness and attacking it -- even if the Greats understanding may be slightly inferior to Dugu 9 Jian, these two cases show that they are experts that can easily recognize weakness in Jin flunkie level fighters at least.
Yet, after Hong Qigong was injured, he had no choice but to run from those level fighters despite seeing their exact weaknesses. At the time, he was healed enough that he had the health of a normal person without access to inner strength.
Linghu Chong at the time of defeating assassins and many other fighters actually had the health of a less than healthy person. His movements should actually be even more sluggish than Hong Qigong, yet he's able to destroy groups of fighters while Hong Qigong isn't able to do anything despite his martial arts knowledge being intact but being unable to use his inner strength.
Was Linghu Chong with a month of learning Dugu 9 Jian really superior to a Great with decades of experience ? I'd think being able to call your opponents moves out before even being executed is on a even higher level than just recognizing the weakness...
