Lung Siu Wan, the son of the elder and similarly (but not identically) named Lung Siu Wan in SENTIMENTAL SWORDSMAN, RUTHLESS SWORD, was maimed twice in the story. First, early in the story, Lee Chum Foon crippled his martial arts, but left him basically physically intact, and later, after Junior unwittingly caused his father to be publicly disgraced by Seung Gwoon Gum Hung, the loyal son hewed off one of his own arms in penance.
Needless to say, any potential Lung Siu Wan the Younger had to become an elite martial artist was scotched by those two injuries, but was there really any great potential there to lament? Had LSW, Jr., not sustained those injuries, did he have the potential to eventually grow into an upper-echelon martial artist, or was he ultimately mediocre like his father, even had he been physically whole?
